What we've done

These are some of the highlights of what your money has enabled Hanna's Orphanage to do:

bullet point image Over £1500 has been given to the orphanage to go towards day to day running and maintenance.

bullet point image We've stocked the orphanage library with text books and children's books. This is used by the children in the orphanage and the local community.

bullet point image We've provided pens and paper for the children to use at school. Pens are often in short supply, and the children really look after and treasure them!

bullet point image Over 16 kilos of clothes have been sent to Ethiopia or bought in Ethiopia. These go to the children in the orphanage and the local community.

bullet point image The children have been given toys, teddy bears and skipping ropes. Some of the older girls have been given eco friendly bags, kindly donated by CSV.

bullet point image The children in Shiro Meda have been given story books and wall charts to help them with their studies.

bullet point image We have paid the rent for the Prisoner Children's Home in Jimma, Western Ethiopia, enabling it to stay open. This means that the children can live in a proper, stable and comfortable home, that they have enough food to eat, enough toys to play with, and they can attend a local school.

bullet point image Hanna's Orphanage has provided many toys and games for the orphanage. We gave footballs to the children in Jimma, along with pens, pencils and exercise books, and then Colin McKenna donated a Swing Ball set for the children of Shiro Meda. For the children at the Wollo Seffer branch of the orphanage, many people have donated toys and games including skipping ropes, 'velcro catch', diablos and cricket sets. These were a huge hit!

bullet point image We have provided a new combination colour printer, photocopier and scanner for the orphanage. It sounds like a luxury, but it means the orphanage can print proper colour brochures to give to tourists who visit (to encourage them to donate!), to create and photocopy worksheets for lessons, and to scan photos and documents onto the computer.

bullet point image Money we have raised will ensure that 25 children have a stable house for at least a year by paying the rent on five houses for the orphanage. This ensures the children have a safe place to live, and don't have to keep moving around while the orphanage looks to find cheaper places for them to stay.

Things often move slowly in Ethiopia, so it can take some time to see the results from your donations and our fundraising efforts. However, please be assured it does get there, and your contributions really are making a difference to Ethiopian children!
